SANSUI SOU SHIKOKU KENNEL

MEETING THE BREED
The Shikoku Ken comes from Japan where they were originally used to hunt boar and other game in the mountains of Kochi prefecture. Like the other six native Japanese breeds, Shikoku were loved as both working dogs and loyal companions. These traits are still apparent in modern Shikoku, and the breed is commonly energetic and intense outdoors while being more relaxed and laid back in the home.
Shikoku tend to be relatively biddable and attentive to their owners compared to other similar breeds, but they can still be a challenge to train due to tendencies towards distractibility and overstimulation. This means they want to work with their people, but they may lack the focus to respond the way we want them to, particularly in new or highly distracting environments.
Yamamichi Sou is breeding Shikoku with the primary goal of producing healthy, temperamentally stable dogs that also fit the breed standard. We are also dedicated to any and all of the dogs that will come out of our breeding program, as well as the homes they will eventually go to.
